The Europe trip

Well hello there!

If you've read my previous blogpost, you probably know that me and my friend are traveling through Europe in May. Right now there are about 9 days to go, and you could say that I'm pretty excited. Or a lot. All right, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE! A few days ago we received the Interrail tickets, so you could say shit is getting pretty real. Yesterday my aunt and uncle from Groningen visited us and they brought two huge backpacks for me to choose from, I'm so thankful for that. So these days are all about packing, choosing what I'm going to take with me and planning the last details of our trip, like picking hostels and activities.

On May 1st at 07:04 am, we're leaving from Amsterdam Central Station for our first city on the list: Copenhagen. It's a 11-hour trip and we'll arrive at 06:14 pm. I think that we're just going to look for one of the hostels on our list then, have dinner somewhere and go to sleep. Or we could just fight the tiredness with a few drinks and explore the night life of Copenhagen :) We'll see! On May 4th, we're leaving Copenhagen for the dazzling Berlin with its fascinating history and rich in places to go out.

May 7th is the day that we're heading for Venice, I really cannot wait to explore this beautiful city. Although I've only seen pictures and heard stories, Venice has always been some kind of must-see for me. The whole picturesque and pleasant atmosphere appeals to me a lot. On May 10th we're leaving the lovely Venice for Firenze. My friend has got some connections there, and they would like to show us the Italian way of life. Sounds like an amazing experience to me (and I assume that there will be Italian food. Good thing I like Italian food. Or just food). The next stop is Milan, and I'll probably have a hard time being there because I'm not allowed to shop. Well, I am allowed to, but everything I'll buy has to travel with me, in my backpack. And a back injury doesn't sound very nice, so I'm going to have to control myself.

After three days in Milan, we're going to Barcelona. I've been there once before with my Spanish class when I was in high school, and you could say that it was one of the best weeks in my life. We had exchange students who showed us the city, introduced us to the Spanish culture and so much more. My exchange student, Marina, was such a nice and friendly girl. And now, after two years, we're meeting again because me and my travel buddy are sleeping at hers during our stay in Barcelona. So thank you high school for connections in Barcelona!

Early in the morning of May 19th, we're hopping on the next train to Madrid, the capital of Spain. Another city that has so much to offer. With its numerous markets, places to go out and shopping opportunities (again, control yourself Ruby, mind your back) I cannot wait to explore this great city. The next stop is Lisbon, Portugal. I've heard so many great stories about this city, so we just couldn't skip this one. After four days of enjoying Lisbon, it's time for the last city on the list: Paris! Ah, the city of love. And of la Tour d'Eiffel, fashion and the croissant (although the croissant originally comes from Austria, but we don't mind). Me and my friend have got the brilliant idea of spending our last money on shopping, all of it. And because Paris is the last stop, we won't have to take our purchases through the rest of Europe. So shopping it is.

And on May 31st, our train home will be waiting for us. At 16:25 we're kissing Paris goodbye and we'll arrive in Amsterdam at 19:41. It feels so strange to write about the last day, because it feels like the whole trip is over already. Luckily, it is all yet to come!

Stay posted, I'm leaving in about 9 days, so I've got plenty of time left for another blogpost! Pinky swear!

Love,
Ruby
